In In Pimonte, in the province of Naples, at the foot of the Lattari Mountains, Olimpianti S.r.l. has upgraded the solar PV system of a flat in a family-owned building. The work retained the existing modules, adding a 6 kW Heiwit inverter, 20 kWh of battery storage and a backup panel.
The aim: to adapt the system to the needs of a fully electric home, from air conditioning to car charging.
Olimpianti: energy efficiency at the core
A young company specialising in energy efficiency, Olimpianti S.r.l. designs and installs, through its partners, solutions for the residential and industrial sectors. From solar PV to centralised heating systems, the company develops bespoke projects to meet its clients' requirements.
The system configuration
The solar PV array has two east-west facing strings, with a total output of 7.86 kWp:
- East: 9 modules of 440 Wp, for a total of 3.96 kWp.
- West: 12 modules of 325 Wp, for a total of 3.90 kWp.
This layout spreads generation between morning and afternoon.
The previous system was replaced with a 6 kW Heiwit inverter and two 10 kWh batteries.
The battery storage holds the energy that is not consumed immediately, making it available in the evening or when demand exceeds solar generation. A choice aimed at increasing self-consumption and reducing grid imports.
A fully electric home
The house uses a single heat pump to power underfloor heating in winter and fan coils for summer cooling. Domestic hot water is provided by solar thermal and a hybrid heat pump unit, while a wallbox charges the electric car.
These loads have different needs and usage times, so being able to use self-generated energy beyond daylight hours plays an important role in managing household consumption.
Integrating the backup
The work also included the installation of a backup panel, with the related modifications to the electrical system. In the event of a grid outage, the system can power the loads connected to the dedicated circuit, within the limits of the available power and the energy stored in the batteries.
The project shows how a targeted revamp can make the most of components already installed and introduce new functions, adapting the system to the home's changing needs.
