Heiwit presents the new sodium ion BESS: the ideal choice for data centres
We are excited to announce the launch of our new BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) energy storage systems at the sodium ions, designed to meet the increasingly complex needs of the data centre modern.
The exponential growth of data traffic and the growing commitment to sustainability make efficient, secure and cost-effective storage solutions indispensable.
Our sodium-ion systems offer an alternative to traditional lithium batteries, with high performance.
Why choose Heiwit's sodium ion BESS?
Our systems are designed to offer:
-
Increased securitythanks to an advanced liquid-cooled thermal management system and multi-level fire protection.
-
Long life: 4000 cycles with 70% residual capacity, according to the cell datasheet.
-
Materials: the cells contain no cobalt.
-
Reliability across a wide temperature range (-30°C to 50°C system operating temperature).
Main technical specifications
The new system is based on a highly integrated and easy-to-install 20-foot container housing high-capacity sodium ion batteries:
-
Total rated capacity1.08864 MWh
-
Battery configuration9 clusters, each consisting of four 210Ah/3.1V battery packs (48 cells in series)
-
System voltage range420V to 1497.6V
-
Rated discharge power1 MW (0.5P)
-
Cooling system: a liquid, with temperature control between 18°C and 23°C
-
Weight of the complete container33 tonnes.
Sodium ion cell performance
Each cell offers:
-
Nominal capacity: 210Ah
-
Rated voltage: 3.1V
-
Maximum discharge current: 1C
-
Life cycle4000 cycles with remaining capacity at 70%
-
Operating temperature range-30°C to 60°C
Advanced Management System (BMS)
The BESS Heiwit is equipped with a Multilayer BMS distributed architecture, which monitors:
-
Voltages and temperatures of individual cells.
-
State of Charge (SOC) and State of Health (SOH) in real time.
-
Charge/discharge current and insulation to earth
The system has CAN, RS485, Ethernet communication and supports standard protocols such as Modbus and IEC61850, ensuring maximum interoperability.
Fire protection and safety
Our system adopts a multi-layered protection strategy:
-
Automatic fire extinguishing aerosols on each battery pack.
-
Complete gas extinguishment in the event of an advanced fire.
-
Integrated emergency sprinkler system
-
Direct communication with the BMS management system for immediate fault detection.
Conclusions
With liquid cooling and multi-level fire protection, the new sodium-ion BESS from Heiwit is a solution designed for energy storage in data centres and industrial plants: sizing and cost-effectiveness must be assessed project by project.
Alongside the industrial-scale BESS units for data centres and businesses, the same sodium-based chemistry is now being applied on a domestic and commercial scale: see the full range of Heiwit storage units and the 10 kWh, 48 V module.
