Heiwit: sodium ion batteries set to revolutionise European storage

Heiwit has reached a major strategic milestone in the development of sodium ion batteries, an innovative technology that is set to revolutionise the energy storage market. Currently, Heiwit has a potential annual production capacity of 90,000 10 kWh batteries each, equivalent to a total capacity of 900 MWh (0.9 GWh).

 

This production capacity positions Heiwit significantly in the fast-growing European energy storage landscape, which is increasingly oriented towards sustainable and safe solutions. The sodium ion batteries offered by Heiwit represent a viable alternative to traditional lithium technologies, with obvious environmental and economic benefits.

 

Heiwit is currently already marketing the 10 kWh domestic version and expects to start receiving orders for the industrial version at high voltage by the end of the third quarter. This industrial version is designed for three-phase installations, equipped with 20 kW inverter and 40 kWh stackable storage.

 

Considering that on average about 0.16 kg of lithium is used for every kWh stored in conventional batteries, an annual production of 900 MWh would avoid the use of about 144 tonnes of lithium, contributing significantly to reducing the environmental impacts associated with its extraction and processing.

 

Moreover, the sodium batteries proposed by Heiwit are characterised by a lower operational risk, operating stably at moderate temperatures (around 30°C), and a more sustainable and less complex supply chain.

 

Heiwit, therefore, presents itself as an emerging strategic player in the European energy storage scene, with significant growth prospects thanks to the innovative and sustainable technology of its sodium batteries.
