Renovation Bonus 2025: deduction from 50% to 36%

Sep 18, 2024 | Taxation

The Renovation Bonus 2024 is currently an important tax relief for those wishing to carry out extraordinary maintenance, restoration and conservative renovation work, as well as building renovation on common parts of residential buildings. Thanks to this 50% Irpef deduction, it is possible to recover a significant portion of the expenses incurred for renovation work, with a maximum expenditure limit of €96,000 for each property unit, which translates into a maximum saving of €48,000.

Interventions covered by this facilitation include the installation of photovoltaic systems, an increasingly popular choice for those wishing to reduce energy consumption and actively contribute to the energy transition. In a context of increasing focus on sustainability, this incentive not only helps to improve the energy efficiency of buildings, but also offers an opportunity for significant financial savings, especially if action is taken before the reduction of deductions planned from 2025.

The possibility of taking advantage of these benefits will extend until 31 December 2024, after which the deduction percentages and expenditure limits will be reduced. Let's see what's new for the new year.

Deadlines and future prospects of the Renovation Bonus

The Renovation Bonus, in its current form, will expire on 31 December 2024, but it will still be possible to take advantage of smaller deductions in subsequent years. As of 2025, the tax deduction for building renovation work will fall from 50% to 36%, with the maximum expenditure limit decreasing from 96,000 euro to 48,000 euro per property unit.

Moreover, from 2028, the deduction will be further reduced to 30%. These progressive changes are a boost for those considering renovations or installing photovoltaic systems: 2024 is the ideal year to act, taking advantage of the maximum tax rate still available.

Despite future reductions, the Renovation Bonus will still be an important lever to incentivise the improvement of energy efficiency in buildings, guaranteeing, albeit with lower percentages, concrete help for those who decide to invest in energy saving. Users will have to plan their interventions carefully, considering the possible timing of the work and the documentation required to access tax deductions.

In particular, with the increasing demand for the installation of photovoltaic systems, waiting times are likely to lengthen, making it even more urgent to start work by the end of 2024.

Who can benefit from the 2024 Renovation Bonus?

The Renovation Bonus is not limited only to the owners of the buildings affected by the interventions, but can also be claimed by those who have a right in rem in the property, such as usufructuaries, or by tenants and comodatari who bear the costs of the work. Cohabiting family members, provided they are actually dependent on the taxpayer, may also benefit from the tax deduction.

The tax deduction is not automatic, but it must be requested following precise rules and timeframes established by the Revenue Agency. It is necessary, in fact, to correctly present the documentation certifying the expenses incurred and the type of work carried out, in order to benefit from the IRPEF deduction. In addition to this, those requesting the bonus must make payments by means of a 'bonifico parlante', i.e. a bank or postal transfer that includes the tax code of the beneficiary of the deduction and the reason for payment, clearly specifying the subsidised intervention.

Photovoltaics and deductions: why act now

One of the most interesting aspects of the Renovation Bonus is the inclusion of photovoltaic systems among the eligible interventions. The installation of a photovoltaic system not only makes it possible to significantly reduce electricity bills, but also contributes to reducing the ecological footprint of buildings by favouring the use of renewable energy.

With the continuous cost reduction of photovoltaic systems and new technologies improving the efficiency of these systems, return on investment can be achieved even faster. Thanks to tax deductions and bill savings, installing a photovoltaic system today is not only a sustainable choice, but also a cost-effective one.

For energy-hungry companies, Heiwit is an innovative and sustainable solution to reduce energy costs and contribute to the decarbonisation of energy. Thanks to our experience and expertise in the sector, we focus on the installation of photovoltaic systems on company roofs, offering advantageous formulas that do not require any upfront investment on the part of the company.

Our model provides for a 30-year lease and the possibility, after five years, to acquire ownership of the plant at an affordable price. In this way, companies can immediately benefit from green energy production, improving their energy efficiency without incurring immediate expenses. This approach is in line with the targets of the European Climate Energy Directive 2030, which aims to promote the adoption of renewable energy sources and reduce CO2 emissions.

The solution for those who cannot install a photovoltaic system

For those who do not have the possibility of installing solar panels on their homes, there is an equally interesting and innovative alternative: HEIWIT energy tokens, a solution for actively participate in the energy transition without necessarily owning a physical photovoltaic system.

Each token corresponds to a 100-watt portion of an industrial photovoltaic system, allowing anyone to invest in renewable energy. The tokens start generating profits from the moment the grid-connected system starts producing energy and have a 30-year life. During this period, the token holder receives a proportional share of the revenue generated by the sale of energy. In practice, anyone can contribute to solar energy production and benefit from the resulting economic advantages, without having to bear the costs of installing or maintaining a solar system.

Buying HEIWIT tokens represents a tangible investment in the energy future and a concrete step towards sustainability. The energy produced by these plants can be used to offset domestic consumption, thus lowering energy bills, or sold on the market, guaranteeing an economic return. Unlike cryptocurrencies, HEIWIT tokens are not subject to market fluctuations, but have a real value linked to renewable energy production. The transparency and security of this system is ensured by ongoing system management and maintenance, which makes HEIWIT tokens a safe and reliable option for anyone wishing to invest in the energy transition without installing their own PV system.
